From The Ashes Rose a Hero

From the Ashes Rose a Hero

By: Nemo Zaragoza

It’s at the brink of World War II; chaos is everywhere, but amidst the chaos rose a group of people, people that put everything on the line to topple the evil that was corrupting their homeland. These people knew the risk, and they were ready to pay the price for if they failed. The main character Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, played by Tom Cruise, saw what was happening and where it was going and he dared to stop it, with the help from others that believed the same thing. With the help from Major-General Henning von Tresckow (Kenneth Branagh) and General Friedrich Olbricht (Bill Nighy) (and these are just a few) Col. Stauffenberg was able to get the pull on the group that was trying to topple the evil figure of Adolf Hilter (David Bamber) and that made Stauffenberg the person in charge of the whole operation, the operation known as Operation: Walküre (Operation: Valkyrie).

The name of the movie is called Valkyrie, it was named after Operation Valkyrie. Director Bryan Singer, took charge in making Valkyrie. The main actors for this movie were Tom Cruise, Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Thomas Kretschmann, Terence Stamp, and David Bamber. This movie was released the 25th of December of 2008, its rated PG-13. This movie was about the 15th attempted assassination of Adolf Hitler.

The movie begins with Col. Stauffenberg stationed in Africa, writing in his journal about how he feels about this whole Hilter Reign and all about the Nazi party and how he feels that this was all a mistake. Then after a few minutes after the movie started and you see Col. Stauffenberg, their camp gets attacked by enemy planes, and that’s when Col. Stauffenberg gets his right arm severed and he loses his left eye. After he recovers he finds out that he is not the only one that is thinking the way he does. That’s when he meets General Friedrich Olbricht who takes him to a meeting of people that are plotting the 15th attempted assassination against Hitler. As the movie progresses more people start joining this group in achieving their goal.

Overall the thing that stuck out to me in the movie was everyone, but more specifically Col. Stauffenberg. This man (as well as the others) risked everything in their life to topple an evil that polluted their homeland. Stauffenberg knew the risk of what would come to him and his family if this plan failed, yet he still took the risk trying to cleanse Germany of the evil fuehrer. That’s why I think Stauffenberg was mainly one of the reasons I continued to watch the movie, because it took a lot of bravery to defy someone as powerful as Hitler.

Overall I would recommend this movie, the only thing wrong with it (well you cant really change it because its history) was that you knew that this attempted assassination wouldn’t work but you still had to watch it because you wanted to know what had happened and how these people executed this plan, and I will tell you, you will be intrigued on how these people did all of this so I would totally recommend this.
